ShareThis Asynchronous Javascript Loading

Unfortunately the ShareThis service has a lot of known issues, like loading a lot of data from their tracking site, b.scorecardresearch.com and other types of bloat when initializing their icons. Because calling stLight.options depends on having the buttons.js script already loaded, it is not really feasible to initialize the code like this: <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://w.sharethis.com/button/buttons.js”></script> <script type=”text/javascript”>stLight.options({publisher: “6beba854-ee6d-4ae1-a4f3-b69815c8ef63”});</script> However, you could use an onload function to do the stLight.options, and then wrap the entire thing inside of a function that won’t interfere with the global namespace, like this: <script> // ShareThis Asynchronous Javascript Loading // from https://techblog.willshouse.com/?p=5265 (function(){ // window.switchTo5x=false; // (optional) var e=document.createElement(“script”); e.type=”text/javascript”; e.async=true; e.onload=function(){ try{ stLight.options({publisher: “6beba854-ee6d-4ae1-a4f3-b69815c8ef63”, doNotHash: true, doNotCopy: true, hashAddressBar: false}); }catch(e){ /* optionally do something to handle errors here */ } } e.src=(‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ws’ : ‘http://w’) + ‘.sharethis.com/button/buttons.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(e, s); })(); </script> Make sure to update your publisher ID in the code above if you copy / paste it.

Posterous will turn off on April 30, 2013

Hi Friend, Posterous launched in 2008. Our mission was to make it easier to share photos and connect with your social networks. Since joining Twitter about one year ago, we’ve been able to continue that journey, building features to help you discover and share what’s happening in the world – on an even larger scale. On April 30th, we will turn off posterous.com and our mobile apps in order to focus 100% of our efforts on Twitter. This means that as of April 30, Posterous Spaces will no longer be available either to view or to edit. Right now, you can download all of your Posterous Spaces including your photos, videos, and documents. Here are the steps: Go to [http://posterous.com/#backup](http://posterous.com/#backup). Click to request a backup of your Space by clicking “Request Backup” next to your Space name. Return to [http://posterous.com/#backup](http://posterous.com/#backup) to download a .zip file. If you want to move your site to another service, WordPress and Squarespace offer importers that can move all of your content over to either service. Just remember: you need to back up your Spaces by April 30. We’d like to thank the millions of Posterous users who have supported us on our incredible journey. We hope to provide you with as easy a transition as possible, and look forward to seeing you on Twitter. Thank you. Sachin Agarwal, Founder and CEO

Instagram Updates Privacy Policy

Hello, Our community has grown by many millions of people since we wrote our original Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. As we announced in December, we have updated our  Terms of Service and  Privacy Policy. These policies also now take into account the  feedback we receivedfrom the Instagram Community. We’re emailing you to remind you that, as we announced last month, these updated policies will be in effect as of January 19th, 2013. You can read our  blog post that highlights some of the key updates. And remember, these updates don’t change the fact that you own your photos that you post on Instagram, and our privacy controls work just as they did before. Thank you, The Instagram Team
