WordPress: SQL to get all Categories

If you’re trying to get all categories in WordPress with a real, raw, mysql sql statement, this is the type of query you can use: SELECT * FROM wp_term_relationships LEFT JOIN wp_term_taxonomy ON (wp_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id) WHERE wp_term_taxonomy.taxonomy = ‘category’ GROUP BY wp_term_taxonomy.term_id This is how you can get posts of a certain category / taxonomy. I have a few extra lines commented out that could also be used: SELECT * FROM wp_posts LEFT JOIN wp_term_relationships ON (wp_posts.ID = wp_term_relationships.object_id) LEFT JOIN wp_term_taxonomy ON (wp_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id) WHERE 1 #AND wp_term_taxonomy.taxonomy = ‘category’ AND wp_term_taxonomy.term_id IN (13) #AND wp_term_taxonomy.term_id IN (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) GROUP BY wp_posts.ID ORDER BY ID Update: Omar asks: cool.. but how can I get the NAME of those categories ?? Well, try this: SELECT * FROM wp_term_relationships LEFT JOIN wp_term_taxonomy ON (wp_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id) LEFT JOIN wp_terms on wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id = wp_terms.term_id WHERE wp_term_taxonomy.taxonomy = ‘category’ GROUP BY wp_term_taxonomy.term_id or just for the names: SELECT wp_terms.name FROM wp_term_relationships LEFT JOIN wp_term_taxonomy ON (wp_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id = wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id) LEFT JOIN wp_terms on wp_term_taxonomy.term_taxonomy_id = wp_terms.term_id WHERE wp_term_taxonomy.taxonomy = ‘category’ GROUP BY wp_term_taxonomy.term_id

It looks like the willshouse.com is a bit more popular, especially internationally, than I had anticipated. Here’s a map of the last 500 visitors as of today.

Style WordPress with CSS

clipped from en.wordpress.com The CSS Editor allows the blog administrator to modify the visual style of the blog. While the theme’s HTML cannot be modified, Custom CSS gives you the power to make your own design. If you haven’t found your ideal theme on WordPress.com, Custom CSS is for you. The CSS Editor can be found under Edit CSS in the Presentation tab of your dashboard. It consists of a blank area for typing and two buttons: You can edit your CSS and preview the changes without affecting the public view of the blog while experimenting with new styles. In order to save your CSS changes and publish them to your blog, you need to purchase the Custom CSS upgrade. You can edit and save your stylesheet as often as you like; you can use uploaded images as backgrounds; you can modify an existing theme or start from scratch with the Sandbox theme. There is a CSS Customization forum where you can ask for help or give assistance to others.

Creed’s Blog

So I’ve started a blog. It’s only slightly more advanced than Creed typing into a Microsoft word file. The blog has two primary goals: Allow me to play with WordPress (theming, plug-ins, development, etc) Give me a place to store useful snippets of information. I’ve sort of become addicted to delicious and I want something where I can keep track of something a little bit less (or maybe more?)  abstract. Maybe you will find this blog useful, also, butI make no promises.
